I am commenting #BringBackDislikes on every unique UA-cam video that I watch for the rest of 2024, regardless of if I actually dislike the video or not. This is video 1381.

Who did people think Elvis was? God? well he wasn't. Elvis liked little teenage girls. Is anyone willing to understand that? the truth is he was a mess. I'm a 74 yr old woman and got sick and tired of hearing his voice over the radio or on tv. He was treated like a God. He was just a simple man. thats all.

Vicky Cayetano is a former First Lady of Hawaii and a very successful businesswoman. As a child, she acted next to Elvis in “it Happened at the World’s Fair.” I asked her about that experience and she recalled that one day she had been having a terrible time, remembering her lines. She kept on forgetting and messing them up. Apparently everyone on the set was getting kind of upset and she was just a little girl, so she began to get more and more nervous and almost started crying. So Elvis just stopped everything. “ little girl getting tired,” he said. And he took her to go get a hamburger and some fries and calmed her down. That’s a nice guy. I also met a couple of longtime Elvis fans from Hawaii who were just teenagers on vacation in Los Angeles, and went to see him in Beverly Hills. One of them was very scared, but the other one just walked up to the front door, rang the doorbell, just to see what would happen. They were invited in and Elvis entertained them and gave them a snack. Those were the days. of course Elvis gave his famous special here in Hawaii. Supposedly over 1 billion people around the world saw that, and this was 1973.

In “My Tears Ricochet,” Taylor sings he turned into his worst fears when he put money before the artist, which made him start his own label in the first place. Sad.

Obviously this numbering system is for the musical illiterate and for those that play only by ear. Why not just use a simple lead sheet. Or, learn to read and play music. The Nashville numbering system is tantamount to learning to type using one finger on each hand.

That last point about bad management deals had me wondering if he was thinking about David Bowie… Bowie was huge from 72-76, but his manager took his fortune. He was savvy in pursuing a collaboration with Nile Rodgers after a chance meeting in a bar (bypassing record company gatekeepers). His established iconography guaranteed people’s attention, but it was a new decade with a new aesthetic, and if the music didn’t connect it might have been a very different outcome for his career. He chose wisely knowing Nile had a proven track history of melodic hooks and pop sensibility that could rehabilitate his career. It stands as an example that maintaining your instinct for choosing the right people who can help you produce good work makes all the difference. It’s a matter of getting out there and finding them, trying things out and keeping an open mind.

The band I was in The Dynamics, during the late sixties in Norfolk, Virginia, played this song. Great dance song for the teeny boppers at the time. To put a different twist, play it a little slower and in minors. Em, Am, Bm and throw in a Dm where needed.
